Now that Flash is just completely dead, what are your thoughts? Mine are “imagine the amount of studios that are going to have a rough time this year”, “what can Candlestick do for Animate users?” and “why did nobody see this coming”.

My source: Adobe. We should start calling them Slopdobe Doesn’t roll off the tongue by microslop but its close.

why does it HAVE the be the year that i get adobe WHY, WHY!!!

I dont even know if I want to keep my copy of Studio 8 anymore… something I actually own. Tempted to just give it away

PLEAAASSSEEE GIMMMMEEEEEEEE (body seems muscular, does it work out in the gym?)

no… mainly because i cant track you down but also because i still wanna keep it

but this would be close enough

When I heard this I was confused. I’m pretty sure the reason was for A.I slop. I do feel quite worrisome since almost every show I watch indie or professional uses Adobe. But at the end of the day Adobe never cared about us just money and that’s it. Can’t wait for the A.I bubble to pop.On the bright side it could be a good thing for Candlestick and all the forks.

Current mac users would need a virtual machine to run it. Is that one of the ones that doesn’t require a license? (I’m currently crying with these news)

Pretty sure that for existing users who bought Adobe animate, they can still use but just won’t get any updates. But there will be no new purchases following 2027.

i’ve seen a bunch of “it’s so joever the entire animation industry just lost their most useful tool” takes, as well as a bunch of people saying that people that already have animate will still have access to everything. i don’t remember if they continue to have that access past march 2027 though, i think they do? it’s just that it’s deprecated or will be very soon.

either way i’m quite disappointed with adobe’s decision, but if this is what it takes for a worthy adobe alternative to come up… well at least anything that’s not adobe is nice. (i’m sure there’s more nuance than just this)

plus, if they kept animate around for much longer, i’m sure they would’ve tried to shoehorn some AI and kill it that way.

This is sad for a lot of people for sure… but a BIG upside for Wick Editor is that we’ll probably have a lot more users flowing in. Like, I don’t remember the website, but there was one, that let you search up alternatives to a lot of software, and NUMBER 1 on the list for Adobe Animate was Wick Editor. And since we have the OG Candlestick thread still pinned to the top of the forums, we’ll probably get a LOT more people on the forums soon. Heck, if we stick around till 2029, it’s pretty possible we get Jacknjellify and AnimationEpic and all the other object show creators here, not to mention stuff like Hazbin Hotel animated on Wick. Of course Moho and OpenToonz and Toon Boom still exist, but we’ll probably get a good bunch of people animating here soon.

(for some reason even though i looked at their official pages i still don’t really get why animate retirement is happening)
