Candlestick 1.0: A New Fork of Wick Editor

I agree, as well. We need AI in every nook and cranny. Not like tween AI, no no no, I mean LLM AI. I’d love to have forced slop in my animation software

No, you don’t. That is a terrible idea.

I think he’s using sarcasm

No its good /s

Late, but I find it hard to grasp that it is already one year old. I remember spam pinging my friend on discord to say that there is a new wick editor update lol

Candlestick 1.3.0 has been released!

If you’re wondering why we jumped so many versions, we recently changed the version numbering to more accurately reflect how versioning actually works, meaning 1.0.1 was changed to 1.1 and 1.0.2 was changed to 1.2.

But anyway, this update brings some new important features and fixes, including:

  • clips can now be sheared by holding ctrl or command
  • the pivot point can be moved, and clips will remember the pivot position
  • frames have a smaller minimum size and can be resized by scrolling with ctrl, command, or alt
  • more settings autosave, including tool settings and frame size
  • improved the video exporter*
  • fixed the vcam
  • many, many other enhancements

*It’s been brought to attention that some people are having trouble with exporting videos, which we are working on fixing. Please sit tight!

the logo looks way better, also liking the shear shortcut but would prefer just dragging horizontally like in flash if possible

and tint onion skin is preserved!!

This is good, you should delete the ability to exit timelines by double clicking, it is very annoying or find a substitute for it

yes we can finally change the pivot point! been waiting for this!

i believe the horizontal-drag-to-shear functionality is somewhere in development, expect it to come at a later time.

you can finally skew clips!!! i like the pivot points too.

can you please add audio scrubbing, please? and also a frame picker?

How does that work? While holding CTRL (on windows 11), I’ve seen nothing happen.

hm, does this not work?

Wait that’s not shearing, it’s skewing. Maybe you should’ve use a skewing because I thought you could shear (to shear is to cut) clips.

I’ve always understood shearing to basically be skewing: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shear_mapping

Paper.js has both shear and skew, but we just happen to be using the shear because it works a bit better.

From what I understand they both are the same thing. It’s just that one follows mathematical naming (shear mapping) and the other follows popular naming (skewing)

frame picker is available in @StickmanRed’s fork i believe. as for audio scrubbing… until that comes out then i hope you like x-sheets (I’ve yet to use one but they’re still useful): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnS49tHNejY

As we continue patching 1.3, we are also testing 1.4 in parallel. As some of you may already know from the Discord, 1.4 will overhaul brushes! Pante, one of our Discord moderators, made a demo on YouTube.

Keep in mind that the brushes are in alpha and not ready for real use - lots of things are subject to change, and you may lose progress. We will also be swapping between 1.4 alpha-testing and prereleasing patches to 1.3 (meaning, when we publicly test 1.3.1, the brush features will disappear). Please do not heavily rely on the test editor for your projects!!

With that said, the new brush functionality is available in the test editor as of now! If you don’t see it, we might be testing patches to 1.3 as previously noted.

the new brushes are nuts. pleasepleasepleaseplease revamp the asset library next! we need assets that actually sync to changes across all frames.
