Candlestick Game Jam!

The time has comeee for a surprise… kicking off the new years with the FIRST ever—

:tada: Candlestickers Game Jam! :tada:

That’s right, we bring to you all a new game jam with a lotta awards :0
We understand that Candlestick is, in some sense, a fresh software, our community is small, and we need to spread word around more if we wish to make the world see is…
and for that… we plan on spreading word of it to the game dev community through a fun Game Jam!

If you’re not a developer, worry not— for we now have created a new channel in our discord where visual artists, animators, developers, composers, writers, and all can meet and form teams!
We’ve even met with a few outside communities and invited them over, so we’ll see how that goes.
You could ofc still form teams on the forums by creating a new thread under the #show-your-work:collabs cattegory ;)

Annnnd— it doesn’t stop here!
There will be 6 winners in total, with a lotta money and awards :0
The winning categories include:

  • 1st Place Winner
  • Most Unique Award
  • Judge’s choice (3 selections)
  • Random GIVEAWAY

p.s. since we’re a small community and y’all have been using wick for a while, you all have a good chance of being one of the 6 winners

For more information on the game jam, see the jam post on itchio :eyes:
https://itch.io/jam/candlestick-jam

Annnnd it doesn’t stop here either— during the Game Jam period we will be live on discord and youtube to help you out with your projects!
Join our Discord community today to keep up with the jam and reach out to us!

Our youtube is still blank— but we planning on creating tutorials in the future, so that’s another thing to look forwards to in the long run :sparkles:

The itch page has most information; feel free to post any questions you may have here.
Thank you all for being an amazing community :)

first of all i dont have a card cuz im only 13 and can we use vanilla wick editor(original wick editor

Well, the itch.io submission page states the following:

The goal of this Game Jam is to promote a fresh and rising 2D game engine: Candlestick, and help more developers to fall in love with the engine.

and that

All submissions must be made only using Candlestick.

That should answer your question.

@Flipaclip_Master
Understandable, you can enter and if you win, ask to claim no award. If you place, your game would still be featured with our winners in a youtube video, and you can get live feedback on it as well during the period of the jam.
Asides from monetary awards, we hope those that enter would learn and gain a valuable experience that you’d even be able to add on your resume, portfolio, or the sort, when you go to apply for a job or college.
And most importantly, we hope it becomes a happy memory for everyone here :)

@robotbotters worry not! You can form teams directly on the forums here, by creating a new post in the category, #show-your-work:collabs
The only difference between making a team here, or making a team on Discord, is the community. We have a lot of people on the forums that aren’t on Discord, and a lotta people on Discord that aren’t on the forums, and even people on both!

And being on discord is NOT a requirement for this game jam :)

Hey @SharxxyAlt, per the same point I brought up to @Flipaclip_Master, the monetary awards are completely optional!
If you’re underage, you may ask for a parent’s assistance to claim awards.

The main purpose of the award money is to attract new members to the community that may be unfamiliar with the software. Asides from the monetary benefits, we hope everyone gains a valuable experience.

First off, thank you @User_at_War1 for answering this question.
However— I think our itch page hasn’t been worded properly here. We use “Candlestick” synonymously with Wick Editor, as we view the Wick Editor as an older version of Candlestick, and with that said you may use any version of the Wick Editor you wish! Even stickmanred’s fork.
Especially since we understand that a lot of people may not have access to Candlestick on school-owned devices (yet ).
As long as you have a wick file that can be opened in Candlestick, we will accept your game!
* We’ll add a notice of this on the itch page

And on one last note— this being our first game jam, it’s more of an experiment than anything else. If it doesn’t work out well, it may be our last. And if it does, well, you guys may expect more game jams in the future!
For this reason, we want to make the most of it.
And so we would like for any and everyone that loves the editor to participate. If we get more submissions, we’d be able to advertise the editor more properly to the world, and with that we hope to carry this community into a new arc.

I hope I answered everyone’s questions, and if not let me know!
And if there’s anyone else here that would like to participate in the game jam but may not be able to, please let us know! Wick editor’s mission has always been to make game development and animation accessible to everyone, and that mission is one we wish to carry out all the way in our journey!
We’ll try our best to accommodate to everyone’s needs :)

What are the rules

https://itch.io/jam/candlestick-jam

Its blocked

here’s a quick rundown if you can’t see the itch page:

  • the theme is “Two Worlds”, and you can interpret that however you want
  • your submission must be a game created in candlestick (or really any variation of wick editor, as long as the file can be opened in candlestick)
  • team size must be between 1 and 5
  • the submission cannot have generative AI or inappropriate/NSFW content
  • judgement is based on creativity, art, audio, and story. it isn’t going to be very scientific (we aren’t giving exact numbers) but it will be reasonable.
  • prizes go as high as $250 USD

As it’s a game jam you’d be required to create some sort of interactive project
However if animation is your strong suit then worry not— you can find someone that could help with programming and form a team
