Downloads Folder says my file is "deleted" on MAC

I am testing out this program to use with my students and I spent all night creating a project. I clicked SAVE when the project wa finished and that project was on my computer. Everything seemed like it was saving and then writing over the original file. When I went to export the final GIF, it would not complete the full process and when I checked my downloads folder it says my original file is deleted! I lost everything. How do I recover this file? Why did it not actually download?!

Attached is my screenshot of the file in my “downloads” history.

Welcome to the forums @Larissa_Nikola_Lisa. What you describes is more like the .wick file was deleted by the user accidentally. It doesn’t look like is a wickEditor issue. I have been working on wickeditor using MAC as well over a year. I haven’t seen a case where the editor delete a file from my MAC, in fact, it is not possible. There is a possibility that when you exported the gif, you accidentally overwritten the wick file or so…

We highly recommend saving your work often, so you can have multiple copies.

I hope that you can overcome this issue and keep using our editor. Merry Christmas.

Hi @Larissa_Nikola_Lisa, welcome to the forums!

I’m guessing this happened on a school device, right?
If so, that could be connected to this issue.

(I’m a student, so I’ve used the editor on a school device before)

Luckily, the editor auto saves your project while your working on it. When you open the editor, you should be able to find an option to load autosave.

If that doesn’t work, then I’d recommend looking for a method to prevent this from happening by, perhaps, changing the downloads’ location to a drive (I think this could be done from browser settings, I have set my downloads’ location to google drive on my school device).

If the downloads’ location is already set to a drive, then you should look for the file inside of the drive’s “deleted files” section. If you don’t find anything, then the file might’ve failed to download in the first place.

I hope this helped, and wish you best luck with your journey :star2:

i guess if you see the file initially download and not get deleted, immediately put it somewhere safe. for example, somewhere in google drive (school account or personal account).
