Is wick editor considered abandonware now?

as someone who’s been in the wickeditor community for nearly 6 years, I’ve witnessed the software gain popularity and eventually die out. HOWEVER I notice it may be coming back (not the software but the community itself) due to hyuns dojo entering a new era, as well as the osc coming to wickeditor. wick has not been updated in years since luca sold it to the college, so in my opinion, yes. it is abandonware. however I am aware that there are devs on here modding and making updates for it on their own and sharing it with the community, however the official team has stopped development.

any thoughts?

I think it is abandoned and the community will sadly die out

Alan Becker once recommended Wick Editor as a decent free alternative to Flash; when I found this, I noticed many features in common with Flash/Adobe Animate that other software (e.g. Pencil 2D, Blender) didn’t really have. I’m kinda hoping that the community will grow and come together to revive that, keep adding more features to improve Wick as a free Adobe-like animation program

yea and thanks to zane little we will definitely have more community members.

low key tho if we can get abunch of developers and graphic designers I think we could all as a community pull off making like a new wick editor and call it wick studio or sum with like more streamlined features

I remember that video, at the time I still had a small brain to use it, but since I’ve been using it for a while I’m starting to abandon it, because it’s not made for complex drawings (by complex drawings I mean anything other than stickman or object show), not that I don’t know how to make complex drawings using krita but basically at this moment every single line doesn’t merge with the whole drawing but remains a single piece and this makes wick editor unstable, I also tried to select everything and click on “unite”, but I have to do it often and if I don’t do it often many lines could disappear. I also solved some optimization problems by discovering as I already said the “unite” function and in addition I discovered that objects with 0 opacity are not calculated by wick editor, then other problems that chatgpt can tell you for example that it doesn’t use webgl but canvas 2d which is less performing but you should already know this and etc…

Wick’s main engine is completely usable without the 1.0^ editor, for example… I’m thinking of a more basic UI for Wick, made with modern Vite, but the same Wick Engine we have in @StickmanRed’s fork.
wick-studio

Note: Vite is a bundler.

nice but i dont know if anyone can confirm it to me but the UI is the least of the problems in this case it is too simple and i dont like to use keyboard shortcuts much it, also seems to take up too much space but it can be useful for smaller screens or for a mobile version that would not be bad

This is only the test, basic use UI. Imagine it for iPads, or small touchscreen ChromeBooks.
