There are some major differences between both now and Legacy of Wick Editor, but is it worth it?
Wick Editor Legacy is the legacy version to the Wick Editor before its major update. Made between 2016 and 2019, its goal is to basically be a free and open-source, browser-based tool for creating animations, games, and interactive projects, like Flash.
So I used it a bit, and I can line up some stuff that differs from Wick Editor. Product reviews or any of those BITS probably start with the advantages, but this one will start with disadvantages, cause I want to show you what it’s capable of. So sit back, do whatever, and let’s see the Wick Editor Legacy:
Disadvantages
- It’s very old with a load-up screen, with a message redirecting to the one we mostly use if it’s your first time opening it. It uses its timeline above the editor, just as Macromedia Flash did. It also has some old themes of its containers.
- Legacy also lacks current stuff in the Wick Editor. So, drawing a line with the Brush tool won’t be smooth. Yes, it has one, but it’s a bit too fast.
- There’s also a glitch where when you fill in an object with a gap, it literally makes a square until the last objects of the layers.
- There isn’t actually a keyframe button. Instead, you need to right-click the frame.
- There’s probably more to come, but it’s just an outdated version of Wick, you know?
Advantages
- Although it had a bit more complexity, it has, Pen tool next to the sidebar. If you press or skew on the canvas, the line will then be created into a smoother curve. Honestly, this would have made designing in Wick Editor WAY better.
- It also has a #9999ff color by default. It gives that Scratch and maybe Flash nostalgia or something
- So what makes it different is that you can ACTUALLY import SVG FILES into it! I tested it out and it worked! Along with other people, I wanted there to also be an SVG import to Wick Editor, and best part, they’re editable! It supports gradients, too!
Overall, there might be more to cover, but it certainly can be used for testing out, or even creating lol
