The question is… how do we go about this? I like the idea because it could give more stakes, but do we just have our characters somehow summon their OCs to fight Philliment?
Meanwhile (if I’m interpreting your post correctly) shouldn’t we make fictional IRL counterparts of their OCs? and no I don’t want the IRL characters to be based on ourselves. Maybe a little, but we should change, exaggerate, or replace some physical and personal traits to make them at least more separate from us if we’re going that route.
what i mean is that the title doesn’t fit with the story. the story has nothing to do with a forum other than:
- the story was made by people on this forum
- some characters belong to people on this forum
before making a story, the first time we tried to make this game, we made it “forum fighters” because the fighters were all members of the same forum, the wick forum. now, there’s a story. “forum” has become way less fitting now that there’s so much more content in the game than just some random forum members fighting. there’s lore, there’s an antagonist, there’s a theme.
the setting is not a forum anymore, it’s a public futuristic place where you make projects together. i say futuristic because i don’t think we’re making projects on computers, we’re making them on holographs. (i think, that’s how the settings worked, in the story i just thought of settings and it showed up)
in short, the setting of the story and the name of our game are 2 different things now, so it would be best to change the title to be more fitting to the story.
I agree with Baron, the “Forum” part of the title doesn’t seem to be fitting.
But, I think we should discuss the title later, because last time we tried to choose a new title, it took way longer than expected.
What I mean is, let’s keep the current progress going and focus on other stuff. Forum Fighters is the name were gonna use for now, only on the forums since were used to that name, but once the story is complete, we’re gonna need something else.
This is just what I think, but do you guys agree?

I have a thought… Couldn’t we just make frame with a shorter hitbox for the crouch, and have the clip switch to that upon pressing down?
the issue with crouching is that changing size will allow the player to clip through walls. (at least how my collisions were made.) my platformer tests only the collision on the edge of a block. it doesn’t check inside the block. since my collisions are good enough, the player should never clip inside as long as the player doesn’t expand to be inside the block.
this could be solved by checking hits() on every block with the player, but in the end, why crouch when it’s unnecessary?

I like the way FF story is laid out at the moment.
i like making a personification out of the actual place we are all working in. just imagine: the characters in our pfps talking to each other about “how the code is missing” or “why isn’t there a cut tool?” its nice
the reason FF is named FF IS because of 2 reasons
- all the makers of this game are from and discussing the game in a forum
- the game’s SETTING IS IN A FORUM.
a reminder, this story is the personification and exaggeration of what we are doing right now; having adventures.
a story doesn’t always have to have every hole patched.
this story shows us,as our OCs living on the swiftstyle forums, all just working together having to deal to problems like glitches and bugs. OK?

Uh, @mlgcoolguys_1? I’m glad to know of your take on the story we’re creating, but he simply just mentioned about how he thinks the title of the game doesn’t fit the game’s story.
I believe I understand: The story can be unrealistic in some aspects (because its fictional entertainment), but it can still make some logical sense and be an enjoyable story. I have a tiny problem with both Baron’s and your arguments…
We’re talking about changing or keeping the title… when we’re not even finished with the story itself.
I don’t think we’re even halfway to finished with the intro of this story, maybe not even a quarter of this story’s entire length. What’s more is that every person with a character has their own chapter to write, so it could be even longer. Maybe we could worry about changing the game title Forum Fighters once we are somewhere halfway or have confidence in improving the finished draft of the story through editing.

If so, you could use one htibox (collider) for the platform engine that never change in size, and use a different collider for the fighters to register their attacks.

Also for some reason the up and down attack cooldown applies to all other actions too. So if you jump and do an up or down attack, you can’t move or jump for the set hit cooldown time (I couldn’t find the time in the code).
yeah, i was talking about the name, not the story. i thought i made it clear, maybe i didn’t. the story is perfectly fine.
my problem with this is that it’s more than just a story exaggeration, this is completely changing the definition of “forum”. the story is set in a direct interaction (i’m talking to a friend), not an indirect one (i’m talking with a friend over google meet or zoom). “forum” is meant to be online.
as Hamzah said, we should keep the name as is for now, but change it later once we know how the entire story will go, then name the game based on that.
