Proposal: Improving Wick Editor’s UI/UX for Beginners

Hi everyone!

I’m a designer and a big fan of Wick Editor. I love that it’s open-source and accessible, and I’d like to contribute by helping make the user interface (UI) even better and more intuitive for new users.

Why I want to help:

While the editor is powerful, I believe some parts of the layout could be streamlined to help beginners find tools faster and reduce the “learning curve”.

What I can offer:

  • UI Mockups: I can create visual designs for updated toolbars, inspectors, or timeline layouts.
  • Icon Design: Creating clearer, more modern icons for the drawing and animation tools.
  • Feedback & Testing: Reviewing the current “Candlestick” or beta versions to identify any confusing areas.

Where should I start?

I’d love to hear from the moderators (@moderators) or the lead developers (Zach and Luca) on which parts of the interface are currently a priority for improvement. Is there a specific design task or a GitHub issue I should look at first?

Looking forward to helping the community!

you’re more than welcome to provide any thoughts/ideas you have on the ui/ux, on here or on the candlestick discord. right now we’re focused on improving functionality and not doing much with UI (other than not destroying it), but we’re happy to take any input.

i was also brainstorming small changes to the UI in a couple places already, so if you have anything you want to change, do let us know!
