Forum Fighters: Rewritten (Discontinued)

Hello! Sorry if this question was already asked, but how will the player navigate? For example, how do they get into a different stage, a boss fight, or something else like that? Is the game open-world or something? Mainly, I think we’ve only been mostly focusing on the character movements and attacks. And if there’s going to be a story mode, we should at least try to make a map for the characters to move around.

For example, if we’re fighting an enemy, why did we fight them? Did we just teleport all the way to an arena? Sorry if this question was already asked, I just wanted to know how the navigation in the game works.

If there is no navigation or map, I might be able to do something if you have an idea on how the player will move. However if you don’t know, then I’m thinking of it being somewhat open-world theme but also allows the player to be inside the map, sorta like Cuphead.

Again, sorry if this question has been brought up already, I’m really new here.

I’ve been waiting for someone to pop out this question. I think we could use cutscenes and a book to navigate secrets and chapters.

my current thoughts are:

  • quick play: leave it as it is
  • story mode: either a world map or a book is used to “show” the story, and the enemies you fight and the arena are based on where you are right now. for example, if you want to fight someone in a city, you fight in that city, not some random arena. so there’s an arena for every location we fight (arenas may be used many times if you fight in the same location)

I’m not sure when we will continue development on this, maybe like next… summer break? (for me at least)

Think of it as choose your own path story
I’ll do most of the writing at school doing free time and during the holidays, set it in wick

I see… so if we go to that place on the map/book, a cutscene plays and then the player is transported into the arena? In my opinion to be honest, I think it’s best if we make this open world a little bit so the player can explore. We can even sneak in some other things easily by putting it in hidden areas. But if you wanna stick to your idea, I’m okay with it.

i think that’s fine. so you’re going to purely write the story, and then when it’s done, we make it a game?

@awc95014 Quick question. Is the game going to be on the wick forums or on Itch.io? I just wanna know. If so, I can just hook up some art for the cover of the game.

well, we’re developing this game on the wick forums, so it will definitely be here. and then we can also upload it to itch, newgrounds, etc.
