Oh right I forgot to slow it down. Thanks for reminding me.
That’s the idea my friend. Keep building the community, learning from others, and having fun!
hang on i rushed this post, maybe some errors in the files i imported idk, i'll check tomorrow, but take a look anyway if you want
i think this is a good place to stop my project. (unless i come back with more tomorrow)
so basically, the coding sucks. but at least there’s some cool stuff. for example…
- 7-bag randomizer
- pretend there’s a “bag” with all the 7 pieces. the game picks the next piece by reaching into this bag and taking out a piece. the game will take out all 7 pieces before refilling the bag to take out of again. this will perfectly balance the number of each piece, so you don’t get 4 S pieces in a row or go without an I piece for a very long time.
- SRS rotation
- when you look deep down SRS, it’s pretty stupid, but it’s very useful in modern tetris.
- customizable controls, DAS, ARR, SDF, gravity, etc
- go into the default tab of “physics”
- DAS (delayed auto-shift) is how long you hold left or right before the action repeats itself. smaller is faster.
- for some reason, this took so long to make, especially DAS priority (if you press left and right, which one is prioritized)
- ARR (auto repeat rate) is how long it takes for the action to repeat, after DAS finishes. smaller is faster.
- SDF (soft-drop factor) is how much faster than gravity soft-dropping is. bigger is faster.
- gravity is actually frames per block fallen, not blocks per frame. smaller is faster.
- t-spin detection
- t-spins are complicated… but it uses 3-corner checking. there’s no mini t-spin detection yet.
- action text
- capture things like how many lines you cleared (single, double, triple, quad), whether or not it’s a t-spin, and whether or not it’s back-to-back (the previous clear was also a quad or t-spin)
- next pieces and hold piece
- i think you can have as many next pieces as you want, as long as you implement them correctly. (i didn’t actually try it…)
- ghost piece
- and a lot more
my actual submission is a survival game. you have X pieces before garbage is injected onto your board. you can “fight back” by performing quads, t-spins, and all clears. by “fight back” it means that you increase the number of pieces before garbage is sent. as the game progresses, garbage is more frequent. the score is the number of pieces you placed.
base game, nothing special, but feel free to do shenanigans and test things out without being bombarded by garbage lines

less stuff (no action text, no sounds, no camera shake)
the block game strikes back (slightly less graphics)10-28-2021_22-21-01.wick (75.6 KB)
the sounds are from tetr.io. everything like the blockskin and physics was made in wick by me.
i’m interested to see what scores you all have… remember you can change your controls, and you can bind multiple keys to one action.
This one throws an error when a piece touches the floor.
I didn’t find it… then I figured that I had to enter to the actual code to changed it… a configuration page inside the game would be awesome, but I know the extra work that that would take.
Good progress here, overall is good. I wish we could have a “play again” feature. Also, there is no indication of progress until the end when you lose. It would be nice if you could put somewhere the amount of pieces landed from the user while the user is playing.
!!!From this point on, all the following posts must be formal game submissions for the Tetris Jam!!!
!!Other posts under this topic rather than formal submissions will be deleted!!. Thank you!
This is the last day. 16 more hours to submit your final tetris like project. Happy development.
OK I finished I don’t think there are any bugs anymore.
I didn’t think a title screen was necessary so I decided not to make one.

The Block Game Strikes Back
I couldn’t think of a good title, so here we are. it’s a star wars reference and i don’t even watch movies. what.
to change your controls, go to the layer called “physics”, then the 2nd frame, then the default tab, then scroll down to find the controls. ignore the 180 rotation control. you can bind multiple keys to 1 action. you can also change your DAS, ARR, and SDF, along with some other random things.
this is basically a survival game, but not how i’ve seen it done before.
other tetris games usually send 1 line of garbage every X seconds. Tetra Legends somewhat simulates multiplayer gameplay by putting the garbage lines in the garbage queue and allowing the player to defend themselves.
in this version, 3-5 garbage (usually 4) is sent after X pieces are placed, and you can defend yourself by clearing quads (4-line clears), t-spins, all clears (clear everything from your matrix), and combos. when you do these, the amount of pieces before the garbage is recieved is extended.
as you place pieces, the gravity slowly increases and the starting piece buffer shrinks.
your final score is the number of pieces you place.
this game follows most modern tetris mechanics, including multiple next pieces, a hold piece, SRS rotation, and accurate piece colors.
here is the game. it’s actually pretty hard, it’s more for my level of gameplay. t-spins are your friend in this version.

if you want an easier version of the game, use this. gravity starts slower and increases slower, lock delay is doubled, and you only recieve 1-3 lines.

here’s a version that doesn’t try to kill you. it’s a bit outdated on the effects. the main one it’s missing is that in the new version, the matrix becomes reddish and you see a preview of your next piece’s spawn location if you’re close to dying. also, some sounds are replaced or added.
fancy block game10-28-2021_13-31-02.wick (1.1 MB)
other details about the game (basically repeated from last post)
the matrix reddens and you see a preview of the spawn location of the next piece when you are close to dying.
the action text can determine the number of lines you clear (single, double, triple, quad), whether or not a clear is a t-spin, and whether or not a clear is back-to-back. i may post a video of it.
when you perfrom an all clear, you get mega fancy action text.
the sounds are all there, including clearing t-spins, quads, and non-special clears; a normal rotation and a t-spin rotation; each combo; etc.
the ghost piece can be toggled on or off. but last time i checked, turning it off actually broke the game… i think i fixed it, but maybe not. um… sorry about that.
the game uses 7-bag randomization.
i will probably make a video showing off all the cool effects that non-guideline players might be missing out on.
edit: here, this should work. i do some random gameplay for a while. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zgmTXIpvPDnWn0dmDI3szu9VWpJ6ThUL/view?usp=sharing
I tried to put an updated version of my Tetris project, but it had a bug. I just fixed it. I just added the control settings so people can play using the controls that they prefer. It is kind of nice.

Hi Community,
We have 2 participants for this Tetris Jam:
-
[1] @pumpkinhead with Tetris Dev Jam
Wick File: tetris_pumpkinhead.wick (3.1 MB) -
[2] @BaronAWC with Tetris Dev Jam
Wick File: tetris_awc95014.wick (2.1 MB)
Please give them a try, and leave your comments and constructive feedback. I have to say, making a Tetris Game is a challenge, and these 2 participants made a complete functional Tetris game each.
Please congratulate, and support them. Even though I’ll be selecting the winner based on the criteria that I established here the criteria, it would be good if you guys (the community) play both versions and tell which one you like the most and why.
The winner will be announced tomorrow at 6:00pm (EST) (Oct 30, 2021)
Thank you!
Timezone, please?
Anyone? It is important to participate in this things. (How can we do bigger events if there is no-one showing interest?). (Please don’t rate mine, I’m not a contest participant)
i guess nothing’s stopping me from giving feedback to pumpkinhead.
the fact that it runs at 60fps is great. mine barely runs at 30, and sometimes it goes lower.
however, it’s really annoying that the I piece spawns vertically, especially as a person who plays way too much tetris.
also, the I piece kicks are still buggy. seems like the kicks are 1 block off.

I noticed that you also have combo sounds. each combo is more high-pitched than the last. but I didn’t see “clear.mp3” in your code anywhere, nor did I see anything about changing pitch… where is it?
As a relatively new Tetris player, here are my evaluations.
@pumpkinhead’s submission:
Pumpkinhead’s submission is - well, Tetris. It runs very smoothly (45 - 60 FPS on a medium-end device), everything is fleshed out, but it’s still just Tetris in the end.
7/10
@BaronAWC’s submission:
The Block Game Strikes back is an excellent game. I got carried away with it while playtesting! The only downside I could see is that i is very laggy. 14 - 15 fps on a medium-end device, and I would not even imagine playing it on a lower-end device.
6/10

First, As I said before… My respect with these two participants. Making a Tetris game in a few days is a thing for Advance Wick Editor Users/Programmers. And both of them @pumpkinhead and @BaronAWC exceeded in this Area.
Now, with regards this Tetris Development Jam, the criteria used to select the winner is divided in 5 main areas. Each area weights the same… So with a percentage of 86% Vs 80%, the Winner of this Tetris Game Jam is @BaronAWC. The main difference between the two versions was in the originality aspect of the criteria. Both versions of the game are well done and fantastic.
Here are the results details:
Really enjoyed both.
Re: Pumpkinhead’s: It’s a bit disappointing that, at least on my end, colour wasn’t really retained when filling the board. But it worked reasonably fast (35-60 fps). The block colours were a nice pastel. Nice choice there. Overall, the visual choice was pretty.
Baron’s: It was often working lower than 15 fps. I have a reasonably powered machine. Not sure why it was so slow. Visual choice was a bit jarring, but still colourful and bold. It felt more stable than pumpkinhead’s was, which occasionally moved my blocks too much(?). It was fun even losing, I like the way losing works.
I don’t know enough about tetris, and haven’t played them for long enough. For the little I did play, I really enjoyed this. Thanks!
my coding kinda sucks…
not sure what you mean, it looks fine to me.
don’t know what you mean by moving the blocks too much, but I’m guessing it has to do with DAS and ARR. here’s a visual about how DAS and ARR work.
I make it so that in my game, this is changeable by the user. in pumpkinhead’s game, DAS and ARR are the same.
the DAS time in pumpkinhead’s game is too short, which is why Jovanny says that when he wants to move only one space to the side, it will actually move 2.
the purpose of DAS and ARR is that many times, you only need to move the piece by 1 space, so you tap the key before DAS finishes. However, many other times you need to move the piece all the way to the side of the board (for finesse and speed reasons… i don’t think I’m going to describe finesse). so you hold the key, and instead of waiting for the slower DAS time, you let the faster ARR time move the piece faster. Many high-level players use an ARR of 0.
